For those of you who run a outboard jet on your boat, there is some required maintenance to keep it functioning properly, and to assure that you can remove, adjust or replace needed parts if required. I am are not covering inboard jets in this article. I will not really go into the a lot of details here of history, how it works or installation as it is available on the manufacturers website listed below. The bulk of all the current outboard jets are made by Specialty Mfg Co. The jet units you find on the factory fitted motors, no matter what name is on the motor is made by this company. This Specialty Mfg company was started by Dick Stallman after he experimented with an idea in

It never seemed to run as great as I thought it should and it was starting to do strange things like flooding whenever it felt like it. I couldn’t take it anymore and I couldn’t find anybody who seemed to be knowledgeable enough to make it work. They are easy to find, relatively inexpensive and as bullet-proof as they get.

Those living in a municipality often take for granted utility services that many rural property dwellers are not privileged to enjoy. Many people living in rural regions are extremely fortunate if they are able to afford the huge expense of drilling a water well and even more fortunate if the drill actually strikes good potable water. For those rural proprietors or tenants who are challenged by the absence of a drinkable water source on their property, a cistern system is a practical and economical alternative.

A water cistern is simply a water holding storage tank. For potable water, the cistern should be sterile and completely enclosed to keep unwanted debris from entering and contaminating the system. Water cisterns are available in all shapes and sizes and manufactured from many different types of materials. The selection is vast. Cisterns are fillable through a water inlet near the top or can be filled directly through the top cleanout or entry hatch. In the side wall near the bottom of the cistern is a water outlet this is where a pump and some pipe fittings will be assembled.

A pump is necessary to suck the water out of the cistern and through some supply lines push the water to the required usage point. Once you have all the equipment installed, all you need is water. My water cistern is enclosed in an insulated building for heating during cold temperatures through the winter months. This is the water supply jet pump bringing water from my gallon cistern bottom outlet to the demand location.

Sorry, something has gone wrong. Yes, its a very common setup in Florida where the water has a “swampy” smell from the well. The submersible pump in the well pumps into – gallon tank vented to the atmosphere. This aerates and purifies the water. The larger tank provides time for the chlorine to dissipate. Flow of water to the nozzles is controlled by a “toilet ball” type valve which opens and lets water flow when the level of water in the tank drops below a certain level.

A small pressure tank with a pressure switch controls the submersible pump, Pressure to the house is provided by a “shallow well jet pump” sitting beside the treatment tank. It sucks water from low in the treatment tank and pushes it to a 2nd, larger pressure tank sized to the size of your house, which in turn provides good pressure 50 – 70 psi to the house.

Operation of the jet pump is controlled by a pressure switch on the 2nd pressure tank. I would avoid trying to hook a jet pump in series with your submersible pumping into a single pressure tank because jet pumps really need to be full of water to lubricate themselves and if the jet pump is always “getting ahead of” the submersible it could often be running dry.

On the other hand, such an arrangement with both pumps controlled by the same pressure switch would be considerably cheaper to install than the system described above so you may want to try it. You’d save one open tank, one pressure tank, one pressure switch and a water spray valve. If you do it, be careful to buy a shallow well jet pump sized smaller than your submersible. Of course another alternative which might end up being cheaper is simply to buy a much larger submersible pump.

Repair problem then replace fuse or reset breaker Motor is set to incorrect voltage, or, voltage being fed to motor does not match the motor’s rated voltage.

Many pumps have dual voltage motors.

Installation 4 BEFORE YOU INSTALL YOUR PUMP NOTICE: For proper performance, pump MUST be matched to ejector and to well depth. This pump is designed for wells from 25 ft. to ft. depth from well head to water.

By Larry Pina The hand pump and electric pump share the same well casing. I remembered then that when I was a youngster one of our neighbors had attached a working hand pump to his electric well pump. I made up my mind — then and there — to at least investigate the possibility. It’s fortunate that I did, too, because putting a hand pump on our well turned out to be an easy task even for an amateur do-it-yourselfer like me!

And if you’re looking for a low-cost, nonelectric backup design for a “juice powered” pumping system, my solution just might do the job for you! Low-Cost Pumping Parts As shown in the accompanying diagram, our hand pump and its related components are totally separate from the electric unit. The two pumps merely share the same well casing in this instance, a 6″-diameter pipe that extends feet into the ground.

In addition, because the water table is only about 13 feet below the top of our well casing, we were able to choose a simple, shallow-drawn hand pump for our purposes rather than having to buy a more expensive, deep-reaching machine. To calculate the height of the water table, I just lowered a string that had a small piece of wood tied to the end of it into the well casing until the wood floated and the string went slack, and then I marked and measured the string.

And though I opted to build a small wooden pump house out of scrap lumber to mount the water hauler on, you could simply attach the pump to a picnic table or even directly onto the well cap itself. Continue Reading Hand Pump Payoff We’ve had our hand pump setup almost three years now, and it’s proved to be a huge success. We initially thought we might resort to it only occasionally during an emergency, but it actually gets used almost every day. Why, the neighborhood children actually wore out our original pump the very first summer we had it in operation!

Lower the assembly into the well, foot valve first, until the top of the pipe is at the top of the well casing. Make sure you seal all threaded joints with Teflon tape or drinking-water-safe pipe thread compound. Shallow Well Pump Installation Run pipe between the pump outlet and tank inlet, connecting it with appropriate fittings.

The entire pump hook-up is less complicated and easier to maintain. The submersible pump is protected from freezing as it is down in the well. It is easier to push water than pull it.

Comments 21 There are two main types of pumps used to bring water up from residential water wells: With submersible pumps the electric motor and the pump are installed inside the well as a single cylindrical unit, so the pump actually pushes the water up. In contrast, jet pumps act like a long straw, using high pressure to create a vacuum suction that draws water to the surface.

Shallow jet pumps up to 25′ deep have the equipment mounted at the surface, while a deep well jet pump has an ejector installed inside the well. Within this general price range there are also convertible jet pumps that can be used in either shallow or deep wells. In addition to labor, the installation of a water pump may require additional piping or other plumbing, and possibly repairs to the water system if replacing an old pump.

Well pumps raise water from a well and, typically, deliver it to a storage tank where it is held under pressure until needed. Most well pumps are not designed to run continuously, and don’t start pumping water each time a faucet is turned on or a toilet is flushed. Instead, the pump delivers water to the storage tank until the tank’s pressure hits a preset level, usually 40 to 60 psi pounds per square inch.

The pump then switches off until the pressure in the tank drops a specific amount, which prompts the pump to re-fill the tank.

SE Texas Using a generator to power a water well pump I have read a lot of threads on here asking about using a generator to power a water well pump so I wanted to pass some info along. My intent here is only to clear up some confusion about using water wells and generators, which many of us have to do while living in the country. First, a little about myself.

Pump will operate at all depths shown, with pressure switch set at PSI. Tested and rated in accordance with Water Systems Council Standards. NOTE: Pumps installed with a Pro-Source ® tank require a PSI relief valve.

Besides the ground being clay, we have developments all around us that were placed on top of back-filled swamps and marsh land. Residents of this area have their sump pumps run year round. Because the pumps run year round that creates issues when the temps are below freezing. If your sump pump seems to be running continuously it could mean one of two things: Sump pump discharge lines can freeze causing the sump pump to run continuously, eventually burning up the pumps motor.

It also means if the water has nowhere to go the sump pump basket may overflow flooding your basement. A person can do a few different things to prevent this from happening. Often times the sump pump is hard piped from the sump pump to the outside of the house. The problem with doing this is that if the sump pump needs to run in the winter it will be discharged right next to the house instead of away from the home. When that happens it is likely that the water that you just pumped out of the basement will make its way back to the basement again.

A homeowner should have a couple flexible discharge lines on hand so that if you have a period of heavy sump use you can throw a flex line on to get the water away from the house. Then, if and when the line freezes up, you can detach that line and put your other spare flex line on. We do not recommend directing the water into a floor drain or laundry tub inside the house. This is considered an illegal hook-up of the sump discharge.

Once each of the foot lengths was laid out we bundled the lines together, securing them to one another with plastic zip ties at 10 foot intervals. Though the poly pipe was somewhat rigid, fortunately we managed to stage it for installation without putting any kinks in it. Next, Patrick connected the pipe, the wire and the rope to our Sun Pumps submersible pump.

The poly pipe is connected onto the top of the pump with a pipe clamp and the safety rope is fastened at the designated point with a series of knots reinforced with plastic ties. I watched as Patrick wired the pump to the power source and it looked like a fairly straightforward process.

Pump blueprinting offers much better hook-up in rough water and is an important asset to machines that will be run hard in rough water (as race boats are). If your machine will be operated on only smooth water, blueprinting offers little improvement for the money spent.

We strongly recommend that you read this entire pamphlet before deciding which modifications are right for you and the kind of riding you intend to do. Our engine kits are as follows: The Sleeper will start and idle like a stocker, have the sound level of a stocker, and run on 92 octane pump gas. Peak speed increases average 5 – 7 mph over stock. HAMMER 92 octane – Intended for the serious recreational rider, this kit shares many of the Sleeper kit mods along with a cost conscious selection of aftermarket bolt on parts.

The Hammer 92 is as easy starting and reliable as any stocker, yet it’s the fastest pump gas compatible engine kit available anywhere. Peak speed increases average mph over a stock machine. HAMMER octane – Intended for the serious modified class racer, this kit offers national class power output along with the best in race level reliability. The Hammer is not for the meek or the weak. Peak speeds average 10 – 11 mph over stock. The primary performance problem of the standard crafts is the lack of low speed acceleration.

Strong low speed power is needed to permit smooth controlled turns, as well as getting heavier riders up on plane. A secondary performance problem is the lack of peak water speed ability compared to other high performance crafts. Making good increases in the acceleration and peak speed of a , without hurting reliability, is not difficult.

Jet Pump and Pressure Tank setup Author: Anonymous User Can anyone explain to me how to properly set-up a jet pump and pressure tank? We moved into our home just over 4 months ago now. The water pressure has always been a little on the low side. So this week I installed a new larger pressure tank. I also replaced the pressure switch and pressure gauge at the same time.

Dec 01,  · I use one of these for running my outboard out of water. There is a bolt as a plug right behind where the grease hose is. You pull that plug and screw the adapter in place and turn the hose water on (or turn off on the adapter).

Any time you take your Sea-Doo out into salt water, you’ll want to flush the engine out afterwards with fresh water to prevent the salt water from collecting and damaging the engine. This is especially important when you’re about to place your Sea-Doo in storage for the winter months. Unscrew your Sea-Doo’s drain plugs. Locate the Sea-Doo’s water injection port by consulting your owner’s manual. Depending on the model of your Sea-Doo, the port will likely be either in the rear back corner, inside the jet pump area or under the hood in the front of the vehicle.

Turn the water off to your garden hose. If you force water into the Sea-Doo with the engine off, it will cause hydro-lock. Make sure that the vehicle’s engine is off. Insert the head of the garden hose into the Sea-Doo’s water injection port. The male connector of the garden hose will slide snugly into the female connector of the water injection port.

A built-in seal on the water injection port prevents leakage. You shouldn’t need to screw the connector shut or apply excessive pressure.
